Evidence
White Noise Works
Scientific
research has shown that there are definite benefits from listening
to white noise
to assist with calming, settling and sleeping, not only in babies
but in adults too.
Below
is an extract from a research paper written by the Institute of
Obstetrics and Gynaecology , Royal Post Graduate Medical School,
Queen Charlotte's Hospital, London
http://adc.bmj.com/cgi/content/abstract/65/1/135
"We
studied two groups of 20 neonates, between 2 and 7 days old, in
a randomised trial. Sixteen (80%) fell asleep within five minutes
in response to white noise compared with only five (25%) who fell
asleep spontaneously in the controlled group. White noise can help
mothers settle difficult babies"
You
may also have read many professionals advice which also advises
of some form of noise control to calm your baby down. For
example saying Shhhhhh in a fairly loud voice, not putting baby
down to sleep in a quite room etc. This is based on the same principle
as white noise - to mask out distracting noise as well as distracting
the baby from its own crying.
Also
think about your own experiences with your child:
-
What happens when you take your young baby out in its pram? They
fall asleep to the whirring of the wheels.
-
What about when they are in the car, again they fall asleep due
to the monotonous sound of the engine
Letting
my daughter listen to white noise before and during her naps had
immediate results. I would seriously recommend giving it a try.
Not only is it a very inexpensive and successful tool but it is
also very easy to take and use with you any time i.e ipod, mobil
phone etc.

This
is the music I used with great success. Please don't just
take my word for it read the testimonials
from other parents who were amazed at the results.
